Hi Geoff,
Amazing forum...I need your advice on a dilemma and comments on my strategy regarding the 1073 modules.
I have 24x original 1073 modules on my bench for recap/repair and cleaning job.
The customer also hope that by doing this it will make them sound more similar.
My strategy is to keep them original as much as possible.
After digging into many modules, i realized that some module are equipped with BA283AV and BA284 and some with BA183AM or AV and BA184. Also, many modules have been very poorly recapped and repaired in the past with many wrong value cap. (how surprising the customer want them to sound similar ;) )
I was planning only to replace the electrolytic cap using BC/Vishay 021 or 138 series and not the other types (tantalum, etc...). Any comments ?
On the BA183 i will use:
100u/25v to replace the 80u/25v
22u/40v to replace the 20u/63v
100u/10v to replace the 125u/4v
470u/10v to replace the 400u/4v
On the BA184:
100u/10v to replace the 125u/4v, 64u/4v
22u/40v to replace the 20u/63v
470u/10v to replace the 400u/4v
for the 5u/64v i was thinking about a 4.7u/63v or 10u/63v ???
On the BA283AV:
100u/25v for the 100u/25v
22u/40v for the 22u/25v
470u/10v for the 330u/4v
On the BA284:
100u/10v for the 100u/4v
22u/40v for the 22u/25v
470u/10v for the 400u/4v
On the module equipped with BA183
There is 2 set of 2 640u/25v in parallel. I was thinking about replacing them with 680u/25v or should i use a single large cap for both set ?
I will use a 100u/25v for the 80u/25v
On the one equipped with BA283
I was thinking about replacing the 470u/25v with 680u/25v... ???
Any comments about those substitution ?
Any suggestions about replacing other components that might have aged badly ?
For the dilemma, since the customer want them to sound as similar as possible. Do you think that I should try to put my hand on some original BA283AV and BA284 to replace the BA183 and 184 ?
Many Thanks !!!
